Can’t Knock the Hustle

Wax Poetics has an awesome write up about leading Aotearoa trio, Electric Wire Hustle, which is well worth a read.

....

“We’re all over the United Colors of Benetton,” jokes Electric Wire Hustle drummer Myele Manzanza from Berlin. On the other end of the line, in their hometown of Wellington, New Zealand, his bandmate Dave Wright, also known as Taay Ninh, laughs. There’s some truth in what Manzanza says: Manzanza’s father is Congolese musician Sam Manzanza, Taay is half-Vietnamese, and EWH’s soulful voice, coming from the belly of Mara TK, is steeped in that singer’s Maori roots. Adding to the band’s impressive lineage, Mara’s father is Billy TK, who Taay describes as “a legendary blues/psychedelic guitarist from here in New Zealand.”
